Pastoral and Counseling Care

Our mission in the St. Andrew Ministry is to make and mature followers of Jesus Christ by providing pastoral care to the congregation through counseling, preventative services, teaching, and community seminars.

Counseling

Counseling is provided through the St. Andrew Ministry in the following ways:

  • Short-term counseling is available to address family-related challenges and areas of personal development
  • Referral is available to community providers of mental health services
  • Premarital counseling (using the Save Your Marriage Before It Starts program by Les and Leslie Parrot) is provided for all couples who get married at First Presbyterian Church and to any community member wishing to prepare for a lifelong, successful marriage
  • Organizational and denominational consultation

Preventative Services

Other important topics addressed in different formats include:

  • Minister training/preparation
  • Coping with stress and grieving
  • Raising children
  • Premarital counseling (using the Save Your Marriage Before It Starts program by Les and Leslie Parrot) is provided for all couples who get married at First Presbyterian Church
  • Maintaining quality relationships within families

Teaching

Dr. Paul Suich, Director of the St. Andrew Ministry and Parish Counselor, teaches a variety of small groups and Bible studies throughout the year. A sample of classes includes:

  • Life of David Bible study
  • Book of Galatians Bible study
  • Book of Revelations Bible study
  • Raising Great Kids study
  • Character Matters study
  • Living out truth through worship and sacraments study
  • Boundaries small group

Community Seminars

Periodic seminars with nationally known leaders in the field of mental health and pastoral care address the congregation and the community at large.
