FPC Care Ministry

providing for those less able to care for themselves

The mission of the Care Ministry is to make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ by offering opportunities for volunteers to provide care to the members of our congregation.

Caring for Others

Many aspects of care ministry are provided by the pastors, but members of the church assist in giving related care, with special emphasis on providing for those less able to care for themselves.

At First Presbyterian Church our Care Ministry Coordinator and Care Committee organize care provided by member volunteers and keep the pastors apprised of congregational needs.

    Visitations

One of the primary means of providing care to First Presbyterian Church members involves visitation of members who are ill, hospitalized, homebound, or living in senior facilities. The Care Ministry Coordinator and the pastors visit regularly and are assisted by a group of volunteers who give their time and attention to folks who need it. Elders of the church take Communion to homebound members and facility residents on a regular basis.

    Prayer

Praying for one another is an important ministry at any church and is facilitated at FPC by the Pastors and Care Ministry Coordinator. Members can ask for prayer by contacting the church or a staff member, or by sharing information through the Communications Card, available in all worship services. Prayer requests are gathered on a weekly basis and provided to the Prayer Team and the congregation.

    Encouragement and Support

Volunteers are involved in several ministries of encouragement and support:

    • Creating handmade prayer shawls to be delivered to those who are in the hospital
    • Arranging meals on a short-term basis
    • Preparing birthday cards to mail to congregation members each month
    • Providing tastefully arranged beverages and cookies for funeral receptions.

In addition, the Care Ministry Coordinator leads a monthly support group for grieving widows
