In the coming weeks, the FPC congregation will have multiple opportunities to make a difference in the Lakeland community through the church’s annual Thanksgiving in a Bag and Season of Service.
FPC has been conducting the Thanksgiving in a Bag program since 2017. The goal of the program is to collect non-perishable goods for distribution to local ministry partners. Taken together, if all requested items are included, the bag items will make an entire Thanksgiving dinner for one family.
The following are the items requested: cooking oil, canned fruit/applesauce, green beans, black beans, peas, corn, stuffing/dressing mix, cranberry sauce, instant potatoes, rice, sugar, and cookies.
Bags will be in the pews and seats in all three worship services on Sunday, Nov. 10. Filled bags need to be returned to the church no later than Sunday, Nov. 17.
Also included with the bags is a ham, which may be purchased ($20 each) in the Welcome Center on Sunday mornings or online.
Recipients of the bags include: Anchor House, Jesse Keen Elementary, Philip O’Brien Elementary, Salvation Army, VISTE, and Wilson House. Wilson House residents will assist with deliveries to the other organizations.
Additional opportunities included in FPC’s Season of Service are: Heifer International, Parker Street Ministries, and Be a Santa to a Senior. More information will be coming soon about those events.
